The start of a new journey.

The journey of a pregnancy....of a couple becoming parents....

I woke up around 2 a.m. soooo sick. I figured I had the flu since just a couple days before I had watched my niece who had recently had the flu. I threw up a couple times, laid on the couch and finally made my way back to the bedroom around 7:30 a.m. My back was hurting too - which happens when I start my period, which I was expecting to happen any day - so I took 2 Midol. I asked Chris to bring me the trash can to the side of the bed because I felt like I was going to throw up again....I also asked him why at 2 a.m. it smelled like he had just cooked or warmed up leftovers. He said he hadn't eaten anything - it didn't even dawn on me to question my heightened sense of smell.

So - I laid there....with "the flu"....almost in tears. It was the first night of a new course that night, and I knew I couldn't get myself out of bed to go - even though it was still 8 hours away by that time. I called my boss, told her I had the flu, I e-mailed my teacher letting him know I'd be missing the first class....my sister called and I told her I had the flu and was in bed.....

Then I got a text from my friend Sarah - she was telling me she wasn't at work that day, she was staying home. I replied back: I'm home to. Throwing up. To which she replied: I'm sorry, but that makes me smile...mayb ur pregnant!!!!!! have u started ur period? My reply: No, but it's the flu. Complete with 5 fever blisters. Tonights my first class too : ( idk what I'm goin to do.

An hour or so later I got up to pee...and thought, what the hell, I'll take a pregnancy test. I grabbed a Dollar General test from the counter (A $3 one....so, surely I thought, it'd be a little better than the $1 ones I should have bought stock in) - I peed on it. Negative. 5 minutes later I could see a FAINT positive sign. I figured it was past the time allotted of when you should read the test....but decided to try and pee again - on a brand name test - So, less than 10 minutes later I made myself pee again....barely enough to cover the pregnancy test. One line appeared - dark - the control line. Within about a minute a very FAINT second line appeared. HOLY COW - It hit me - I AM PREGNANT!!!

I called Chris - I asked if he was busy - and since when he'd left for work I was curled in a ball with "the flu" he immediately questioned whether I was okay - I blurted out "I'm pregnant!" I told him I was going to Sarah's to have her look at the pregnancy tests to make sure she thought that I was (since the lines were so faint). I headed to Sarah's - and showed her the tests - and we agreed - I am pregnant!

We visited about it for a while and I headed back to my house. After looking up some baby stuff online I decided to head to work -

It was the LONGEST DAY EVER!! I felt so horrible all day - I had no appetite and felt like if I ate I'd puke. I had to sit through 4 hours of class where I could NOT concentrate. Every smell made me want to throw up - and I could smell everything so strongly.....

When I got home - around 9:30 p.m. - Chris and I laid in bed talking about the pregnancy - we were both still in awe - but very happy!
